School Squat Record

As posted on twitter on Monday, Dom Brett broke his 3rd school squatting record in the house gym on Thursday. The video is below and Duncan's interview with Dom will follow soon...

Ice Skating Writeup

We had to wait but it was worth it. In fact this is such a literary marvel that we decided that Josh's account of the ice skating trip needed its own post ;-) :

Before half term, the men of Talbots decided it was time, time to stun the world… Time to go ice-skating. The venue for the master class was to be MK ice. The skaters assembled to the minibuses ready to quick skate their way to MK. The drive was long and seemed to be quite a gowpen. But we had forgotten that the brogdignaim of a journey could not faze ‘The men of Talbots‘. High spirits rose higher due to classy, classic tunes from Crowson's phone. The skaters were to be lead by Mr. Gracie, Mr. Chance, Miss Dimmock and Mrs. Edwards. We arrived at the ice with plenty of time to warm up for the master class. The Skates laced and booted. The ice glimmering smooth and white. It was now! Now was the time. One by one the men slid onto the ice like something off the top of the podium at the figure skating event at Sochi. Mr. Gracie’s pirouettes were immaculate, Mr. Chance's gliding graceful and Nihat’s crashes courageous. The men lay down moves never seen before (as well as latter on, just laying down). All types of skating were on show from the highly impressive men: ‘The men of Talbots’. Speed skating was perfectly executed by Ben, John, Tom, Charlie, Nico and undoubtedly Josh. Figure skating was superbly displayed by Frank, Bob, Benno and Alex. The trip to say the least was highly successful many steps were taken that night. Not only physically but mentally.

*gowpen= a double handful
*brogdignaim= an island off Norway where it was believed giants lived

Miss Dimmock's Tutor Group Meal

On the last Thursday before the end of the half term, the tutor group went out in to town in order to celebrate what had been a hard half term's work coming to a close. The restaurant of choice was the Riverside Grill, which was narrowly more popular than Nando's when put to a vote. Personally, I am very glad we went to the Riverside Grill. It was a meat feast for the boys, everyone tried their very best to take down as much meat as they could. This was typified, I feel, by the Holroyd boys' platter, the platter's sheer size and variety proved a suitable challenge for the ravenous teenage hunger-pans. Naturally, as was the case with more or less all of the plates of food served to the group, the teenage hunger-pans outweighed the food, however the food went down fighting. In what can only be described as an absolute shocker (to quote Karan), a blunder occurred amongst the boys and a glass dropped from the table, the food no doubt preoccupying their minds and concentration momentarily lapsing. It gave a sharp edge to an otherwise amicable night, thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended. Nando's may be our next destination; we might not be allowed back to the Riverside Grill having eaten all their food and smashed their glasses!

Chinese New Year

Last friday marked the beginning of the year of the horse in Chinese culture; this did not go unnoticed in Talbot's circles. However, a break from tradition was made in celebrating Chinese new year in the house. Rather than go out for a chinese buffet, the decision was made to have our celebrations in the barn as one big Talbot's family. Jordie  played some traditional(ish) chinese music for us all to listen to and Mrs Gracie managed to order a take away big enough to feed the whole of the terracotta army, let alone Talbot's house. The great atmosphere, good food and friendly company made for a lovely night greatly enjoyed by all involved.
