This year’s fantasy league was one of
intense competition, with echoes of Manchester City’s last-gasp title winning
2011-12 season about it, as Ben Nesseler ultimately claimed the Fantasy League
Crown, winning by a marginal 3-points.
Despite a strong early showing from James Siu’s
imaginatively named “JamesS”, that had many bookies tipping the side as the
title-favourites, “JamesS’” luck soon began to change and with a string of poor
points tallies towards the end of the campaign, they finished a disappointing 9th
place overall; shades of David Moyes’ Manchester United about them. After the
initial table-topping start from “JamesS”, the real competitors soon began to
distinguish themselves from their lesser counterparts, with Ben Nesseler’s
appropriately and rather annoyingly named “Lonely At The Top”, James
Loewenthal’s “Loewe XI” and Aaron McNally’s “Hugo Rodallegabomb” hovering
around the top spots. It wasn’t until around halfway through the season though
that “Hugo Rodallegabomb” or “Dyslexia Untied” as they were then called,
emerged as a true powerhouse of fantasy football, gaining a lead that reached
well above 120pts from their nearest competitor and taking them virtually out
of sight from the rest of the pack. Whether Aaron was lulled into a false sense
of security, or whether he was simply embarrassed for the other teams having
amassed this absurd lead we shall never know, but some neglecting of his responsibilities
as manager
during the final weeks of the campaign and
some inspirational tactical changes from “Lonely At The Top” closed the gap to
just 18 points by the final game-week. Ultimately, it all came down in the end
to a brilliant change of goalkeeper by Ben Nesseler, as by swapping Arsenal’s Wojciech SzczÄ™sny for Tottenham’s Hugo
Lloris, Ben gained the additional 6 points needed to snatch the crown away from
top-spot stalwart, Aaron McNally. Congratulations to this year’s winner, Ben
Nesseler after a fantastic fantasy league season. Honourable mentions of course
go to Mik Glik’s “The Greatest Team” and Mr. Gracie’s “Team Thalweg” who
finished in fourth and fifth place respectively.

Fives vs RFA
After a long winter break, the Talbot's fives players were ready and rearing to go upon their return to school. Karan is this year's fives first team captain and was keen to select fives players he knows well, with two Talbot's boys selected alongside him in the Fives 1st IV, Dom and Michael. Dom has played before for the fives team, however Michael was making his debut for the outfit. After arriving early to get some practice in, the boys were met with closed doors to the courts, which they presumed meant that the courts were locked. However, Mr Croker had in fact left the doors open, and to the boys horror, after twenty minutes of waiting, the boys discovered this for themselves. Nonetheless, the boys cracked on with some practice, until the opposition arrived. The RFA are a gentlemen's side, therefore the boys certainly were superior in terms of athleticism, however the gentlemen's experience and guile proved too much for Michael and Karan in the singles, however our resident power-lifter, Dom, made short work of his opponent, with some brute strength coupled with moments of creative brilliance dismantling his opponents spirited resistance. After the conclusion of the singles matches, with the RFA holding a slight advantage, the match moved on to the doubles. Karan and Michael made up a pair, with Dom making a pair with Yuri Lelikov of Redburn House. Karan and Michael's matches began brightly, with a win against their opposite numbers. However, despite some outrageous shots from Karan and Michael's best efforts to cover Karan, the pair lost their remaining matches. Yuri and Dom, although being far superior in terms of strength than their opposition, could not convert this into points and eventually succumbed to some close defeats. Eventually, the RFA won by about 40 points, a respectable result and one that was a fair representation of the fixture. The boys certainly saw some positives in their matches, however, and will look to improve for their upcoming fixtures.

GCSE Results
Many congratulations to all of our GCSE candidates. There were many very impressive results and much of the hard work done over the past couple of years was rewarded.
Rio Rosano led the way with 8 A*'s with Assan Amirov not far behind on 5. An A* of course is just as much of an achievement as an A or a B grade where one thought they might get a much lower grade, so there is much to be proud of.

A and AS Level Results
Many congratulations to all of our leavers who received A level results today. There were some excellent and well deserved grades collected and we wish them every success as they move on to University and the next stages in their lives.
Every boy received at least one A or A* grade with Ryan Chan (2 x A, 1 x A*), Josh Li ( 3 x A, 1 x A*) and Patrick Tai (2 x A*, 1 x A) particularly catching the eye.
Well done and good luck from all at Talbot's!
Our incoming upper sixth also did themselves proud with some top AS level grades. Benson Chen had the overall best results with A*, A, A, B. Mikhail Glik and James Loewenthal should also take a bow after receiving A*'s in A level Further Maths alongside their IB studies this year.

Particular mention must be made of Niclas Bieber who was the top scorer in the school this year with 44 points and Philip Schaar who gained an impressive 40 points.
