Friday Celebration 1/2/19

It's been a great week in the house finishing with our Chinese New Year celebratory meal last night.

The house is starting to look very different with some rather dramatic tree surgery happening in the orchard, and obviously the snow this week sent everyone giddy with snowball fights for a brief 24 hours before it all melted.

This week merits were achieved by:
1: Magomed, M, Will, Nathan, Simon, Kevin, Tizian, Curtis, Luca, Igor, Arthur, Lennart
2: Max, Roy, Jason, Brady, Moritz
3: Owen, Aslan, James, Arron, Desmond, Ben
4: Dell, Edwin
5: Makkar

and an incredible EIGHT merits were achieved by Orlando! Makar has also been awarded a commendation for amazing debate contribution.

In sports we have:
Hockey: 1st - Tom, 2nd - Dan, U16B - Divine and Will, U15C - Kabi, u14D - Josh

Football: All matches have been postponed but Alikhan was in the 1st and Felix in the U16A

In rowing, Nik and Evgenni are in a 4, Alex in an 8 as is Orlando and Lennart is in an 8 too at Peterborough

On Sunday, Max was in the U14 and Will in the U16 7s after making his debut for the U18s last week. Unfortunately, due to an injury this week Max will be unable to play this time.

This week's man of the week for outstanding teaching of a younger boy is Dan Reid. We love seeing older boys showing leadership skills and mentoring younger students, so we're really pleased to be able to recognise these qualities in Dan.

House Fire

Last night we enjoyed a bonfire in the orchard with burgers and roasted marshmallows. It was a great time to spend time together as a whole house with all year groups mixing together and making new friends.

Orchard Growth looking good...

All the summer and autumn fruits are starting to come through over the holidays in the orchard. These should make for some great eating (and maybe drinking...) when everyone comes back!!!

The apples, peaches, blackberries and green gages are starting to ripen now and the pears and grapes should ripen during next term. Unfortunately the raspberries, honey berries and blue berries are all gone! The tomatoes and pepper in the veg patch may also last until the new term for lads to use in the kitchen!

Sunday Cider Making

On Sunday a group of boys went out to the housemaster's garden and picked almost every apple that they could, in order to make cider and apple juice. At one point in the afternoon a chain of boys stretched from the trees to the end of the garden, with apples being passed along the line. The boys then went into the kitchen in order to slice, peel and press the apples. Come the end of the day, the boys had managed to retrieve two gallons of apple juice, which will now be made into cider and some made into more drinkable apple juice. The boys thoroughly enjoyed what was an enjoyable autumn's afternoon.
