Friday Celebration 20/5/16

With the well earned half term looming and as time marches towards the end of yet another academic year, it reminds us how precious our time is.  Before we know it we will be saying goodbye to our Upper 6, it's a big transition for them and we look on it as happy time tinged with sadness. It's makes us realise that we should make the most of our time at our great School but look forward to all the new exciting things we have ahead of us.

The highlight of the week was wakeboarding at Box End Park.  The rain couldn't dampen spirits and Charlie.H, John.H, Alex.S, Simon.C, Harun.C, Andrew.W, Dom.K and Ben.W were joined by a few boy's from Sanderson's House.  They all started out on knee boards to get a feel for the water, speed and find their balance.  Then they all moved on to training boards which are designed to help with stability.  After this they progressed on to professional wakeboards and the boys could show off the skill's they had learnt.  The icing on the cake was they were given the opportunity to have a go at body surfing and a brave few gave it a go.

Friday Celebrations 13/05/2016

Friday 13th unlucky for some?  Not for Talbot's House, we have had another great week and some beautiful weather which we took full advantage of and hosted a Sunday afternoon volleyball tournament.  We had a great turn out which included boys from Pemberley, Burnaby and a lone player Ramius from Redburn, who we feel deserves a special mention!  With some unbiased refereeing from Mr Gracie, and some amazing shots from the Talbot's boys, we were victorious. A great afternoon, enjoyed by all participants.

Friday Celebration 6/5/16

As ever, another awesome week in Talbot's has passed. In fact, it has been two weeks with an Exeat in between since our last celebration night so plenty has happened.

The IB lads have made a great start to their exams and the y11s are going on exam leave tomorrow too.
Last week Ben.W gave a great performance in the Piano concert and there was an awesome 94 not out and 3 wickets in cricket for Dom.B.
Over the weekend, Tom.C played well and scored for England U18 Hockey in their camp with Scotland.
This week we had an impromptu volleyball competition on Wednesday which was enjoyed by all and won by a team of upper sixth with Ben.K in it called 'Where's Nico' (probably one of the most oft-spoken phrases in the house). You can see team photos on Instagram here. https://www.instagram.com/talbotshouse/

There have been many smaller highlights this week too: boys fetching meals for ill house mates, flagging damage to the house that needed fixing, There have also been individuals organising plenty of epic garden football matches and encouraging each other. we also celebrated HOH Charlie passing his driving test tonight.

This week's room of the week went to Charles and Stephen and seemed to be a much less controversial choice than some of the recent awards!

In matches this week we have the boys playing Tennis (Dan.S, Tizian and Sam.P), Cricket (Dom.B - into the A team and Alex.S) and Rowing at Bedford Regatta (Lennart).

The merit comp had two weeks worth in it with the following in it this week:

1: Sasha.P, Sam
2: Crows, Nihat, Sports, Curtis, Igor
3: Dunx, Gabe
4: Ben.W
5: Alex.C

and this weeks king of merits with an unbelievable 12 was Harun!

Top Bloke this week was Dom.B for his epic cricket performance last week.

George was man of the week for the way he took responsibility and provided an inspiration in organising and filling in at last week's athletics fixture at Oakham.

April - a month in the life...

Alton Towers 2016

Last weekend we joined the other boarding houses on the annual theme park trip. This year we went to Alton Towers again and we were well rewarded for the efforts in getting there with another great trip. We started the day with breakfast baps and a two hour bus journey and the weather was pretty miserable, but having a day to hang out with friends from across the houses, try crazy rides and win stupid toys was worth it. A particular highlight was Darren arriving on the bus to go home with two large, stuffed minions!

You can see some videos from the trip on our instagram account: instagram.com/talbotshouse

There are some photos taken by lads on the trip below too:
